Looking for a movie about a girl living where there is no sun and wants to see it but friends think she’s nuts

Does anyone know an movie where there is no sun? Just rain: except there is this supposed one day of sunshine every (insert long number) of years. It focuses on this girl who believes that the sun will show on this one special day. No one else believes her and her friends lock her up, planning to let her out when the day is over … they think she is crazy. But on that one day (when she is locked up) there is sunshine and everyone gets to go outside but her (cause she is still locked up). The whole world blooms and everyone is tromping through fields of flowers. When her friends do remember that she is locked up, they give her a bouquet of flowers. It was so sad and I remember it made me cry! It might have been a Spielburg film but the details are fuzzy.

I remember this movie very well. I saw it when I was in grade school. I’m 36 now and I remember seeing it when I was 11 or 12. The movie was shown on one of those old reel to reel projectors. In the movie the people are living on a planet where it rains all the time and the sun only comes out every 12 or 13 years, or something like that. I remember feeling so sad for the girl that was locked in the closet when the sun came out.
As I was writing this I did a web search and found the entry for the story written by Ray Bradbury. The story is called “All Summer in a Day.”
With a second search on IMDB I found the citation for the film. The person writing the user comments says that he watched it in elementary school as well and it made him sad.
