Wedding Orchids – 4 Considerations
Orchids are the chosen one when talked about for wedding flowers. The image brought to the wedding is nothing short of stunning. The simple use of the orchid for the wedding flower of choice declares a well-defined statement by the wedding couple. While all flowers brighten the collective ambiance for a wedding orchids just seem to go a step further. Below are some thoughts about the wedding orchid and the creative use thereof.
Wedding Bouquet: Color is one of the prime considerations to the wedding itself and the wide range brought to the selection by choosing orchids. The color range is wide from whites to pinks to lavenders. While even with the great choice of orchids for wedding, a precise color match may not be possible. However, the blending of hues to match the chosen wedding colors is very likely to achieve the desired result.
While color may, and rightly should, be the center focus there are other relevant factors in assessing the use of orchids. The fragrance of the blooms must be in the mix of things. While important to many the scent could be a distraction to others. While in a wedding bouquet the principal apprehension for an overwhelming scent would be for the wedding party closest to the wedding bouquet. The bride, groom, best man or the bride’s maids might have allergies. The scent range is varied from orchid to orchid. Something as simple as knowing a little about the people in the wedding party will have a tremendous impact.
Center Pieces: Whether for the head table or the guest tables in the reception area, a center piece can make a truly lasting impression. But just like the wedding orchid bouquet the use of orchids for the wedding need to be fully evaluated. Clearly the same consideration for the aroma of the blooms needs to be given. While the wedding bouquet for the most part is not in the close proximity to the entire wedding party the center pieces will be. Setting at a round table for 8 to 10 guests may not seem a worry for most, some of the potential guest may not be able to take a strong fragrance. This is not a suggestion to inquire a response from the wedding guest if they have allergies or not to certain orchids. However, on the other hand if it is known that this could cause a problem keep this in mind when choosing the variety of wedding orchids to be of less scent.
Ordering: There are both advantages and disadvantages to using orchids for your wedding. While for the most part buying orchids direct from a grower is a good thing, keep in mind this can and probity will result in some results not thought of in advance. The fact you are buying in bulk can lend itself to a surprise or two. Great cost advantage for the amount of flower blooms and even whole plants, but the shipping process itself can take a toll on the flowers and blooms. You should ask the grower/shipper the typical amount of shipping damage that can happen in transit, example, a 5 to 10 percent of loss or even higher. The plants and blooms will come with some damage. Try to understand how much and order a cushion to have the correct amount to be able to use for your needs.
Availability and Cost: Wedding orchids are available year round. The cost may vary to the different times of the year. Check with your provider regarding cost variations. This can be of benefit. Also, if budget is of concern, getting a true perspective of the cost will help in the overall planning of the event. This could help in deciding if the orchids will be center stage or they will be a beautiful accent to the wedding day.
